Want clean, streak-free windows? You don’t need any fancy cleaners or tools. You can make this DIY window cleaner in your own home. It also provides a cheaper alternative and eco-friendly solution than chemical cleaning products.

Although cleaning your windows and door only requires minimal effort, it still seems to be one of the household chores we simply put off. Maybe because window cleaners are expensive and let’s face it, who has the time? That’s why we created these steps to help you create a homemade window cleaner that will provide you with a safe and easy route to streak-free, shiny windows. All the ingredients you need for this recipe are within your budget and can be easily found in your home.

Here’s what you’ll need :

STEP 1: Gather ingredients

For this DIY window cleaner, you would need to check your cabinets and make sure what you need. If you are missing one, it can easily be found in any home improvement store or grocery store. White vinegar plays an important role in our DIY window cleaner. Compared to a commercial cleaner that leaves a subtle wax residue on your window, white vinegar’s acidity cuts through dirt and grease. If your window has that wax residue, you can easily remove it by using an ordinary dish detergent, which is another ingredient we need for our homemade window cleaner.

STEP 2: Mix your ingredients

In a spray bottle, pour ¼ white vinegar with ½ teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Dilute the solution with 2 cups of warm water, shake the bottle thoroughly to mix the components.  You can also use lemon juice as a substitute for white vinegar. Lemon juice has the same level of acidity that can cut through grease and other dirt.

STEP 3: Add your essential oils (optional)

We all know that vinegar has a strong odor that not everybody loves. That’s why you can choose to add 10-15 drops of your preferred essential oil into the spray bottle solution. Don’t forget to mix it thoroughly. Spray your windows with a light mist of your homemade window cleaner, and using a lint-free cloth, wipe the cleaner onto the surface of the window. Be careful not to use a cloth/sponge that would leave streaks on your window.

WINDOW CLEANING TIPS:

Use your homemade cleaner for a streak-free window

At the start of spring when the weather warms is a great opportunity to clean your windows. A thorough window cleaning should be at the top cleaning-to-do list. Before getting started, you might want to follow these useful steps:

If your windows are dusty but not streaky, you can first put down your homemade window cleaner or any cleaning solution and just simply use a lint-free cloth to remove away any dust. Then, you can spray a little bit of your window cleaner to complete the job and leave your windows with a streak-free shine.

The perfect time to clean your windows is when the sun is not shining directly on the windows. The cleaning solution will only dry faster when it is sunny, which will leave streak marks on your windows.
